Every Nigerian family has that group chat.
Most days, it is filled with birthday wishes, Sunday greetings, old photographs and messages that receive seven “Amen” replies.
Then one evening, a different message appears.
“Daddy is not feeling fine.”
Within minutes, the group becomes a command centre.
Nobody appoints a leader, but everyone finds a role. One person calls. Another sends money. Someone searches online. The relative living closest begins moving.
This is how many Nigerian families care for one another. Healthcare is rarely an individual responsibility. It is shared between children, siblings, parents, friends, neighbours and sometimes an entire compound.
But the group chat also reveals a recurring problem: we are often looking for useful health products at the exact moment we need them.
We respond quickly. We can also prepare better.
Nigerians know how to rally around someone who needs help. We contribute towards hospital bills, send supplies home, accompany elderly relatives to appointments and call the trusted healthcare professional in the family.
The difficulty is that help often begins from a position of uncertainty. Nobody knows whether the thermometer still works. The first-aid box has not been checked recently. The glucometer is available, but its test strips have finished.
Preparation cannot prevent every emergency or replace professional medical care. Appropriate products, clear information and reliable support can, however, remove some of the confusion around everyday health needs.
For ordinary families, that figure is not an abstract economic indicator. It is money transferred between siblings, a card payment made from another city or savings redirected towards an unexpected need.
When money comes directly from a household budget, a wrong purchase hurts twice. People deserve to know exactly what they are paying for before the family group starts sending receipts.
So, what is Mediqit building?
Mediqit is an online-first Nigerian retailer of home-health products, first-aid supplies and basic medical equipment. We are building for the person using a product and the person trying to purchase it on their behalf.
Our goal is to make selected health products easier to find, understand and order. That means going beyond a product photograph, an account number and the word “available.”

A son in Abuja may be ordering for his parents in Ibadan. A daughter abroad may be arranging supplies for her mother in Lagos. One sibling may pay while another receives the order somewhere else.
The person paying needs confidence in the product. The person receiving it needs clear information. Both need honest delivery expectations and a support channel that responds when a question comes up.
Our ambition is to serve customers across Nigeria. Confirmed coverage, timelines and delivery costs will be communicated as our operations develop.
Trust should not require blind faith
Trust means identifying products properly. It means showing what is included, explaining compatibility, communicating availability before collecting payment and remaining reachable after delivery.
Mediqit is developing relationships with pharmacy and supply partners as part of its sourcing and fulfilment plans. Specific partnership information will be shared publicly when the details and permissions are confirmed.
We will not invent certifications, exaggerate product performance or present retail guidance as medical diagnosis. If a claim cannot be verified, it should not be used to persuade someone to buy.
Build Mediqit with us
Mediqit cannot stop the next urgent message from appearing in a family group. We cannot replace hospitals, qualified healthcare professionals, emergency responders or health insurance.
We can make one part of the response less confusing. We can help households find useful products, understand what they are ordering and reach someone when they need support.
Tell us what you struggle to find, what online sellers often leave unexplained and what you regularly purchase for a parent, relative, organisation or course of study.
